Artist Statment
My work as an artist is founded upon a research practice into historic popular media and folk art traditions. This process is complemented by an archive of sound, photography and the moving image that I have been building since 2005. I use this foundation to explore my core interest in the relationship of the individual to cultural memory.
Conceiving of memory as an archive, I set out to explore how the curation and re-contextualisation of it’s artifacts can affect it’s meaning. My creative practice can be described as an attempt to challenge the perception of the familiar in an attempt to relocate both the individual and communal in relation to it.
